Illegal Logging Operation Intercepted in Chiang Mai
Authorities have seized a shipment of illegal rosewood near Pha Daeng National Park, with investigations suggesting links to local forest fires.
According to a report by Thai Post, police from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NED) recently intercepted an illegal logging operation in Chiang Mai province. The operation took place near a river in Thung Khao Phuang, Chiang Dao district, situated within the vicinity of Pha Daeng National Park.
During the raid, authorities seized 11 large planks of rosewood and a pickup truck used to transport the timber. Officials stated that the suspects were in the process of moving the wood out of the area when they were apprehended. Beyond the immediate seizure, investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting that this logging network may be connected to recent forest burning activities in the region.
