Police Officer Surrenders After Fatal Shooting in Chonburi
A police officer in Bang Lamung has been taken into custody following a fatal shooting of his wife at a local kindergarten.
On September 10, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that Police Sub-Lieutenant Thatsaphong Thongthat, a deputy inspector at Bang Lamung Police Station, surrendered to authorities following a standoff. The officer had allegedly shot and killed his wife, who worked as a teacher, at the Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict Municipality Kindergarten in Chonburi province.
Following the incident, the officer retreated to his residence, leading to a multi-hour police siege. Authorities engaged in negotiations to persuade him to surrender, which continued throughout the night. The situation was resolved the following morning when the officer’s son successfully persuaded him to exit the home and surrender to police custody for further investigation.
Relatives of the officer, including his cousin Somsak, expressed shock, noting that they had spoken with him earlier that morning regarding routine family matters and observed no unusual behavior.
