Investigation Expands in South Korean Cafe Freezer Death Case
South Korean police are investigating three additional suspects following the discovery of a woman's body in a cafe freezer in Paju.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, citing The Korea Herald and The Straits Times, South Korean authorities are expanding their investigation into the death of a woman in her 60s. Her body was discovered last week inside a freezer at a cafe in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
Police arrested the cafe owner on September 4, suspecting involvement in a fraudulent gift card scheme. Investigators believe the owner lured the victim to the cafe on September 3 under the guise of discussing a gift card transaction, claiming the cards were stored inside the freezer. Authorities discovered counterfeit gift cards worth tens of billions of won at the scene. The cafe owner reportedly claimed the freezer was used to prevent potential buyers from staying long enough to realize the cards were fake.
Police are now seeking at least three additional suspects believed to be linked to the case. For residents and travelers, this incident highlights an ongoing criminal investigation involving organized fraud. It remains unconfirmed whether the victim was murdered inside the freezer or left to die there, and the full extent of the suspects' involvement in other potential crimes is still under review by authorities.
