BEDO Promotes Community Bio-Products to Global Markets
The Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (BEDO) has successfully launched 10 community enterprises into international trade, generating over 10 million baht in initial business deals.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (BEDO) has announced the success of its 'Product Champion' initiative. This program aims to elevate community-made bio-products by integrating local wisdom and biological resources for the international market.
In a recent pilot effort, BEDO facilitated business negotiations for 10 selected community enterprises at the 'Bio Trade Connect 2026' event. The initiative resulted in over 30 business matching sessions, yielding an initial trade value exceeding 10 million baht. Dr. Thanit Changthavorn, Director of BEDO, stated that the organization has set an ambitious target to increase these sales figures to 100 million baht by 2027.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights a growing trend in Thailand toward sustainable, locally-sourced goods. As these products gain wider exposure, consumers may find an increasing variety of high-quality, bio-based items available in both local and international markets. While the initial pilot has shown promising financial results, the long-term scalability of these community enterprises and their ability to maintain consistent production standards for global export remain to be confirmed as the program progresses toward its 2027 goal.
