Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning Through September 13
Authorities have issued a severe weather warning for much of Thailand, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected to impact Bangkok and surrounding regions through September 13, 2026.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its sixth weather advisory (No. 196/2569) regarding heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand, effective until September 13, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, the current weather pattern is driven by a combination of high-pressure systems from China and a monsoon trough moving across the northern, central, and northeastern regions, alongside moderate southwest monsoons over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
While northern and upper northeastern regions may see a decrease in rainfall after September 10, the TMD warns that the lower northeast, central region—including Bangkok and its vicinity—the east, and the south will continue to experience persistent, heavy downpours. The strengthening of the southwest monsoon is expected to increase rainfall intensity in these areas.
For travelers and residents, this weather poses a significant risk of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes. Authorities advise the public to exercise caution, avoid travel through areas prone to recurring flooding, and stay updated on local weather reports.
