According to a report by Khaosod Online, citing Jakarta Global, 19-year-old Indonesian national volleyball player Junaida Santi has been barred from participating in international competitions. The restriction stems from her refusal to undergo gender verification testing, a requirement now enforced by international volleyball governing bodies for female athletes.
Ludri Mastella, Deputy Head of Sports Development at the Indonesian Volleyball Association, clarified that Santi has not been suspended or disciplined by the association. He emphasized that she remains a valued member of the national team. However, the association must adhere to international regulations, which mandate that any athlete selected for international play who fails to complete the required verification process is ineligible to compete.
Concerns regarding Santi’s eligibility were first noted during the 2022 U17 Princess Cup, resurfaced during the 2024 AVC tournament in Manila, and became more prominent following the recent U20 World Championship.
