Korat Private Sector Urges Government Planning for 2029 World Horticultural Expo

The Korat Chamber of Commerce has formally requested that the Thai government expedite strategic planning for the upcoming 2029 World Horticultural Expo. According to a report by Prachachat Business, local business leaders are advocating for the event to be hosted in the Pak Chong District.

Regarding the previously considered location in the Khong District, the Chamber suggests repurposing the site to serve as a central agricultural market for the Isan region. Furthermore, the private sector is pushing for the accelerated completion and operation of the high-speed railway project. Business representatives argue that the early implementation of this rail link is essential to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the region's capacity to accommodate an influx of international and domestic tourists.

For residents and travelers, these developments are significant as they signal potential shifts in regional infrastructure and tourism logistics. If the high-speed rail project is fast-tracked, it could drastically reduce travel times between Bangkok and the Nakhon Ratchasima province, making the region more accessible. However, it remains to be confirmed whether the government will adopt the Chamber’s proposal to relocate the expo venue or if the timeline for the high-speed rail project will be adjusted to meet these local demands. Stakeholders are currently awaiting a formal response from the central administration regarding these infrastructure and event planning priorities.
