Authorities Seize Heavy Machinery Following Illegal Encroachment on Koh Wang Nok
Thai officials have confiscated a backhoe and launched an investigation into the illegal destruction of 17 rai of forest and coastal land on Koh Wang Nok, Koh Samui.
On September 9, 2026, a joint task force led by the Koh Samui District Chief, local police, and marine and forestry officials conducted an operation to seize heavy machinery involved in illegal land encroachment. The site of the incident is Koh Wang Nok, located in the Taling Ngam sub-district of Koh Samui, Surat Thani province.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, the investigation began after volunteers and park rangers from the Hat Khanom-Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park discovered a backhoe excavating rock formations and clearing forest areas on the southern side of the island. The operation resulted in the destruction of approximately 17 rai of coastal and forest land. Officials are currently gathering evidence to pursue multiple legal charges against those responsible for the unauthorized activity.
