Poh Teck Tung Foundation Hosts Annual Thing Krachad Charity Event
The Poh Teck Tung Foundation has distributed 15.8 million baht in aid and supplies to those in need during its 2026 Thing Krachad ceremony.
On September 9, 2026, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation held its annual 'Thing Krachad' (Si Kow) ceremony, a significant cultural tradition focused on merit-making and charitable giving. According to Khaosod Online, the foundation allocated a total budget of 15.8 million baht to provide essential supplies and transportation subsidies to underprivileged individuals from Bangkok and various provinces.
During the event, the foundation distributed 9,000 sets of relief goods, including rice, canned fish, and instant noodles. Additionally, each recipient was provided with 200 baht to assist with travel expenses. The foundation’s leadership, including Vice Presidents Kobchai Sosothikul, Sak Kor-saengruang, and Wichit Chinwongworakul, oversaw the proceedings. This year, the organization implemented a modified distribution method intended to broaden the reach of the aid to more people in need, citing the rising cost of living as a primary factor for the increased budget.
For residents and travelers, this event highlights the scale of traditional philanthropic efforts in Thailand. While the ceremony is a recurring annual cultural fixture, the specific distribution methods and total aid amounts are adjusted yearly based on economic conditions. It remains to be confirmed how the foundation plans to further adapt its distribution logistics for future large-scale charitable events.
