Thai Government Defends GDCC Cloud Project Amid Budget Scrutiny
A parliamentary committee has defended the Government Data Center and Cloud Service (GDCC) project, claiming it saves 3 billion baht and prevents redundant infrastructure spending.
On September 8, 2026, Peerapat Ratchakitprakarn, a Member of Parliament for the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed concerns regarding the 2027 budget for the Government Data Center and Cloud Service (GDCC). Speaking at the Parliament building, Peerapat, representing the majority of the committee, refuted claims that the project leads to redundant spending. Instead, he argued that the centralized cloud initiative is projected to save the country over 3 billion baht by consolidating infrastructure and achieving economies of scale.
According to Khaosod Online, the committee clarified that the GDCC does not require all government data to be stored in a single system. While general data can share infrastructure to improve security standards, sensitive or highly specialized information will remain under the control of individual agencies to ensure national security and legal compliance. The project also aims to support the development of Thai Large Language Models (LLM) while maintaining strict control over data sovereignty and artificial intelligence.
