Tragic Hornet Attack Claims Life in Udon Thani
A 41-year-old man has died following a severe hornet attack in Ban Phue District, Udon Thani province.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a 41-year-old man named Wichian passed away after being swarmed by a large colony of hornets in Ban Phue District, Udon Thani. The incident occurred on September 6, 2026, while the victim was reportedly cutting bamboo near a field hut.
His father, Thanabat, discovered his son lying in a hammock after the attack. Upon inspection, it was observed that the victim had sustained hundreds of stings across his entire body. Despite the severity of the incident, the victim was able to communicate the nature of the attack to his father before his condition worsened. The family is currently holding funeral rites at their home in Ban Dong Bang.
For residents and travelers in rural Thailand, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers posed by wildlife and stinging insects in forested or agricultural areas. While such mass attacks are rare, they highlight the importance of remaining vigilant when working or trekking in remote locations. It remains to be confirmed if the hornet nest had been disturbed prior to the attack or if the insects were provoked by the victim's activity.
