Thai Government Seeks Resolution for Airport Rail Link Operations

On September 9, 2026, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced that he is convening a meeting with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor and the SRT board chairman to address the future of the Airport Rail Link service. This follows reports that the private operator is preparing to hand back the rail system to the state.
According to Khaosod Online, the private operator has expressed a willingness to continue running the service until the end of the year, provided that certain conditions are met. Minister Phiphat emphasized that the government is reviewing these conditions to determine what is acceptable, with the primary goal of ensuring that rail operations continue without interruption. The Minister stated that the government aims to reach a preliminary conclusion during today's discussions to maintain public confidence and provide clarity to travelers.
