Thailand Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Warning for September 9–13
A weather alert has been issued for widespread heavy rainfall across Thailand due to a combination of a cold front and monsoon troughs.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released its fifth announcement regarding severe weather conditions expected across the country from September 9 to September 13, 2026. According to the report, the interaction between a high-pressure system moving into Vietnam and Laos and a monsoon trough shifting across northern and central Thailand is driving this weather pattern. Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon is currently affecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
On September 9, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of the North, Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions. From September 10 to 13, the focus of the precipitation is expected to shift, with continued heavy rain affecting the lower Northeast, Central region—including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces—the East, and the South. Meanwhile, rainfall intensity is projected to decrease in the upper North and upper Northeast during this latter period.
For residents and travelers, this weather system poses a risk of flash floods and forest runoff. It is advisable to monitor local weather updates closely and exercise caution when traveling in affected areas.
