A 53-year-old man drowned in Chonburi’s Nong Kho reservoir while attempting to retrieve a fishing line for his son.
On the evening of September 8, 2026, a tragic accident occurred at the Nong Kho reservoir in the Nong Kham sub-district of Si Racha, Chonburi. According to reports from Khaosod Online, a 53-year-old man, identified as a machine shop owner from Ratchaburi, went missing after entering the water to retrieve a fishing hook that had become snagged in vegetation.
His 28-year-old son, Thanachanok, stated that the two had gone fishing together after working on a noodle shop renovation in Si Racha, which was scheduled to open on September 14. Despite his son’s attempts to dissuade him, the father swam out to free the line. After successfully detaching the hook, he reportedly became exhausted and was unable to return to the shore, subsequently disappearing beneath the water. Rescue teams, including divers and local police from the Nong Kham station, were dispatched to the scene around 6:30 PM following a report to the Pure Yeang Tai Si Racha rescue center.
For residents and visitors, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable dangers associated with swimming in local reservoirs, which may feature strong currents, deep drop-offs, or submerged debris. While the search operation was initiated immediately, official confirmation regarding the recovery of the individual remains pending as authorities continue their efforts at the site.
