Thailand Increases Fuel Prices Amid Global Market Volatility

The Oil Fuel Fund Committee has announced a price hike for diesel and gasoline effective September 9, 2026, as the Oil Fuel Fund's deficit exceeds 83 billion baht.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Oil Fuel Fund Committee (OFFC) has officially raised fuel prices in Thailand. Effective September 9, 2026, diesel prices will increase by 0.70 baht per liter, while gasoline prices will rise by 0.80 baht per liter.

This adjustment is a direct response to surging global oil prices, which have been driven by heightened tensions in the Middle East and concerns regarding potential supply chain disruptions. The OFFC is currently managing a significant financial deficit, with the Oil Fuel Fund reporting a negative balance of over 83 billion baht. The fund is currently subsidizing fuel costs at a rate of approximately 500 million baht per day to mitigate the impact on domestic consumers.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this price increase will likely lead to higher transportation and logistics costs across the country. While the immediate price adjustment is confirmed, the long-term stability of fuel prices remains uncertain. It is not yet clear how long the current subsidy levels will be maintained or if further price hikes will be necessary should global market volatility persist. Travelers should factor potential increases in transport fares into their travel budgets.
