Retired Teacher Released on Bail Following DUI and Weapons Charges in Udon Thani
A 65-year-old retired teacher was arrested in Udon Thani after crashing his vehicle while intoxicated, with police discovering firearms and narcotics in his possession.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 8, 2026, a 65-year-old retired teacher was taken into custody by Udon Thani City Police after his black pickup truck veered off the road and into a median ditch on the Udon Thani bypass. Responding officers found the driver in a state of severe intoxication and confusion.
Upon searching the vehicle and the driver's belongings, police discovered two firearms and one methamphetamine pill. The authorities have filed preliminary charges against the man, including driving under the influence and the illegal possession and carrying of firearms in a public space. The suspect has since been released on bail following a court appearance, with his family present to provide support.
In a statement following his release, the retired teacher claimed he had been drinking with relatives before the incident and attributed the crash to a loss of consciousness related to his underlying health conditions, specifically diabetes and high blood pressure. He publicly apologized and urged others not to drive while intoxicated. For residents and travelers, this incident serves as a reminder of the strict enforcement of traffic and weapons laws in Thailand.
