Authorities in Ratchaburi are searching for a suspect who fled a police checkpoint, abandoning a female passenger and illicit items in his vehicle.
On the evening of September 7, 2026, police in Photharam, Ratchaburi, initiated a pursuit after a silver Toyota pickup truck evaded a crime prevention checkpoint. According to Khaosod Online, the incident began at approximately 10:30 PM when officers attempted to inspect the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, leading police on a chase that ended when the truck collided with a railway barrier.
The driver managed to escape the scene on foot. Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered a female passenger, along with crystal methamphetamine, a firearm, ammunition, and cash. The woman was taken into custody for further questioning.
For residents and travelers in the Ratchaburi area, this incident highlights ongoing police efforts to curb illegal activities, including drug trafficking and unauthorized weapon possession. While the checkpoint was part of a routine crime prevention operation, the high-speed evasion and subsequent collision underscore the potential risks associated with such encounters.
As of now, the identity of the driver, known locally as 'Jomyut Photharam,' remains the primary focus of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently working to track his whereabouts. It remains to be confirmed whether the passenger was a willing participant or if further individuals were involved in the incident.
