Thai Sports Associations Urge Government Action Over Budget Cuts

According to a report by Khaosod Online, 27 sports associations in Thailand have formally requested that Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri resolve ongoing issues regarding the allocation of national sports funding. The associations, supported by the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, report that the National Sports Development Fund has reduced this year's budget by over 1.3 billion baht.

Chalitrat Chantharubeksa, President of the Squash Association of Thailand and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, stated that the fund manager attributed these cuts to a policy directed by Deputy Prime Minister Songsak, who oversees the sports sector. The associations argue that this significant reduction hinders their ability to prepare for international competitions, develop athletes, and host domestic events to identify new national talent. The sports bodies have expressed concern that if these financial constraints lead to poor performance or a stagnation in the national sports sector, the Deputy Prime Minister should be held accountable for the policy.
