Thailand Open Cycling Tournament Restricts National Team Participation
The Cycling Association of Thailand has confirmed that national team athletes are barred from the Thailand Open to prioritize the development of emerging talent.
General Decha Hemkrasri, President of the Cycling Association of Thailand, announced that national team cyclists are prohibited from competing in the 'Thailand Open' tournament. This policy applies to all stages of the competition, including the upcoming fourth and final round scheduled for September 12–13, 2026, in Phichit Province.
According to Khaosod Online, the association implemented this regulation to create a clear distinction between elite national-level competition and developmental events. By excluding established national team members, the organizers aim to provide a dedicated platform for rising stars and amateur cyclists to showcase their potential and gain experience, with the ultimate goal of identifying future talent for the national squad.
The final round will take place at the Saranjit Mongkol Suk cycling track within Bueng Si Fai, covering a 72-kilometer route through the Pho Prathap Chang and Taphan Hin districts. The event is held under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
