Sansiri Launches Thailand’s First Eco-Friendly Playground Made from Recycled Plastic

According to a report by Khaosod Online, Thai real estate developer Sansiri has launched a new sustainability initiative titled “Waste to WORTH.” This project marks the first instance in the Thai property sector where plastic waste has been transformed into a functional, safety-certified playground.

To create these structures, the company collected 50,000 used plastic bottle caps, totaling 206 kilograms. This process reportedly diverted 61 kilograms of plastic waste from landfills and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 117 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent. The pilot program has been implemented across three residential developments in the Ratchaphruek-Tat Mai zone: Siri Place, Anasiri, and Mable.

For residents and visitors, this initiative highlights a growing trend in sustainable urban development within Thailand, potentially influencing future community design standards. The project serves as a tangible step toward the company’s stated Net Zero 2050 roadmap. While the pilot has successfully delivered these initial playgrounds, it remains to be seen how the company will scale this recycling model to other developments or if similar initiatives will be adopted by other major property firms across the country. The long-term durability and maintenance requirements of these recycled plastic structures in Thailand’s tropical climate are factors that will likely be monitored as the project progresses.
