Federation of Thai Industries Launches 'Buy Thai' Initiative

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is expanding its 'Made in Thailand' program into a broader 'Buy Thai' strategy, targeting 200 billion baht in procurement.

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has announced the expansion of its 'Made in Thailand' (MiT) program into a new initiative titled 'Buy Thai.' According to a report by Prachachat Business, the project focuses on three strategic industrial sectors: national defense, rail systems, and medical equipment. The FTI has set a procurement target of 200 billion baht, aiming to boost domestic production capacity, increase revenue for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and reduce the nation's reliance on imported goods.

For residents and travelers, this initiative signals a potential shift in the availability and branding of locally manufactured goods, particularly in the medical and infrastructure sectors. By prioritizing domestic supply chains, the government and private sector hope to strengthen the local economy. While the FTI has outlined these ambitious targets, specific timelines for the full implementation of the 'Buy Thai' procurement process and the exact mechanisms for how these sectors will reach the 200 billion baht goal remain to be confirmed. The FTI also highlighted recent efforts to revitalize the Joint Public-Private Sector Consultative Committee and progress on the Power Development Plan (PDP 2024) as part of its broader economic agenda.
