Thai Authorities Destroy 68 Tons of Seized Drug Precursor Chemicals
The Thai Customs Department and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board have destroyed over 68 tons of hazardous chemicals seized at the Mae Sot border.
On September 7, 2026, the Thai Customs Department, in collaboration with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), conducted a formal destruction of over 68 tons of hazardous chemicals used in drug production. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the event took place at Akkhie Prakan Public Company Limited in the Bang Pu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan province.
The seized materials, which had reached the final stage of legal proceedings, included 24,000 kilograms of Benzyl Cyanide. These substances were originally intercepted by the Mae Sot Customs House while being transported toward the Republic of the Union of Myanmar without the required authorization from the Department of Industrial Works. Officials stated that the destruction process was carried out to ensure the chemicals are safely disposed of and cannot re-enter the illicit drug manufacturing cycle.
For residents and travelers, this operation highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to curb the flow of illicit substances across border regions.
