Thai SEC Penalizes Four Parties for SIX Network Market Manipulation

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has fined four individuals and entities over 6.5 million baht for manipulating SIX Network token trading volumes between 2019 and 2021.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand has announced civil sanctions against four parties involved in the artificial inflation of trading volumes for the SIX Network (SIX) token. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the SEC imposed a total fine of 6,579,595.40 baht following an investigation into activities occurring between 2019 and 2021.

The sanctioned parties include SIX Network (Thailand) Co., Ltd., along with Mr. Watchara Aemwat, Mr. Worapot Lan, and Mr. Pasawin [surname withheld]. In addition to the financial penalties, the SEC has prohibited these individuals from trading digital assets on licensed exchanges and barred them from serving as directors or executives for digital token issuers or digital asset business operators for a specified period. The investigation was initiated after the SEC received data from the Bitkub digital asset exchange on January 4, 2022.

For residents and investors in Thailand, this enforcement action highlights the ongoing regulatory scrutiny of the local digital asset market. While this case focuses on past market manipulation, it serves as a reminder of the SEC's commitment to monitoring trading integrity. It remains to be confirmed whether the affected parties will appeal the decision or if further legal actions will follow regarding the specific operational impact on the SIX Network ecosystem.
