Thailand U23 National Team to Compete in Asian Games Without Over-Age Players

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thai U23 national football team, led by coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, will participate in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, without any over-age players. Although tournament regulations permit each nation to include up to three players over the age of 23, the coaching staff has opted to rely exclusively on the U23 roster.

Coach Thawatchai explained that the decision stems from the scheduling of the FIFA ASEAN tournament, which requires the availability of senior players. While the team had initially considered six over-age candidates, the priority shifted to managing the senior squad's commitments.

For residents and visitors interested in the tournament, the Thai team is scheduled to compete from September 19 to October 4, 2026. They have been drawn into Group A alongside host nation Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Hong Kong. The format involves a round-robin stage, with the group winner and runner-up advancing to the knockout rounds.
