Legal Gun Owners in Thailand Call for Clearer Regulations
Representatives from the legal gun owner community held a forum in Bangkok to advocate for clearer rights regarding the transport and practice use of licensed firearms.
On September 7, 2026, the founding committee of the Association of Legal Firearm Owners in Thailand hosted a forum at the Grand China Hotel in Bangkok to discuss the current state of firearm regulations. Over 100 participants, including representatives from political parties, gathered to address concerns regarding the government's recent approach to gun control.
Chakree Chaowanasmit, a member of the founding committee, emphasized that the group is not opposing state authority but is seeking clarity on the rights of licensed owners. The group highlighted four key areas: the right to possess firearms vetted by registrars, the right to transport weapons to specific locations like shooting ranges or repair shops, the right to practice for proficiency, and the right to self-defense within legal boundaries.
For residents and visitors, this development is significant as it reflects an ongoing national debate regarding public safety and the rights of firearm enthusiasts, including national athletes who have reported difficulties in maintaining their training schedules. The group clarified that they are not advocating for open carry in public spaces, but rather for legal, secure transport to authorized facilities.
