Authorities in Bangkok’s Saimai district have detained a 26-year-old man following allegations that he physically abused his blind mother to extort money for drugs.
On September 7, 2026, police from the Saimai station, assisted by the 'Saimai Tong Rod' support group, intervened in a domestic abuse case involving a 60-year-old visually impaired woman. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the woman had been living in fear, subjected to regular physical violence and extortion by her 26-year-old son, identified as 'Mek.'
The victim reported that her son demanded 300 baht daily to fund his drug use and forced her to take out high-interest informal loans. Failure to provide the money resulted in brutal beatings. The situation escalated to the point where the mother sought external help to ensure her safety and secure medical treatment for her son.
Upon arrival at the residence, authorities encountered the suspect, who was reportedly carrying a knife. Officers successfully detained him, and he subsequently admitted to the physical abuse during initial questioning.
