Thai Government Reallocates Budget to Address Klong Dan Debt

During the House of Representatives meeting on September 7, 2026, regarding the 2027 fiscal year budget bill, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office Paradorn Prissananantakul addressed inquiries concerning budget adjustments. According to Khaosod Online, the budget committee successfully reduced expenditures by 11.162 billion baht. Of this amount, 6 billion baht has been reallocated into the central budget.

Minister Paradorn clarified that this specific allocation is intended to serve as a reserve for settling the long-standing 'Klong Dan' legal debt. He noted that the Pollution Control Department had initially proposed 3 billion baht for this purpose, but negotiations have resulted in a total liability of approximately 10 billion baht. The Minister also addressed concerns regarding the Student Loan Fund (SLF), stating that no additional budget increase is required as the fund already receives more support than in previous years, urging the organization to improve its internal management.
