Thailand Appoints Experts to New Data Center Policy Board
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has appointed three qualified experts to the newly established Data Center Policy Committee to oversee investment and standards.
On September 7, 2026, reports from Government House confirmed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed Order No. 725/2569, appointing three expert members to the Data Center Policy Committee. According to Khaosod Online, this committee was established under the 2026 Prime Minister’s Office regulations to regulate data center operations, set national standards, and monitor the economic and social impacts of the sector.
The newly appointed members are Chote Trachu, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Supot Teachavorasinskun, former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Chulalongkorn University; and Teer Jearsiripongkul, Vice Rector for Rangsit Center Administration at Thammasat University. The appointments took effect on September 3, 2026.
For residents and expatriates, this development signals the government's intent to formalize the regulatory framework for Thailand’s growing digital infrastructure. As the country seeks to attract more international tech investment, this board will hold the authority to propose policies directly to the Cabinet. While the committee is now operational under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, the specific long-term policy guidelines and technical standards they will enforce remain to be confirmed.
