Thailand Sees Over 60,000 New Business Registrations in First Eight Months of 2026

According to data released by the Department of Business Development at the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand recorded 60,198 new business registrations during the first eight months of 2026. This represents a 1.70% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. For the month of August 2026 alone, 7,913 new businesses were established, marking a 3.56% rise year-on-year.

While the number of new entities has grown, the total registered capital for the eight-month period reached 181,658 million baht, reflecting a decrease of 6.53% compared to the previous year. August specifically saw a sharper decline in registered capital, which fell by 27.51% to 16,811 million baht.

Khaosod Online Thailand reports that specific sectors are driving this activity, most notably the clothing industry, which saw an 87% surge. Additionally, online retail businesses grew by 52.11%, with 1,766 new registrations.

For residents and travellers, this trend suggests a dynamic and expanding local market, particularly in digital commerce and fashion. The increase in new businesses may lead to a wider variety of goods and services available across the country. However, it remains to be confirmed how these new businesses will perform in the long term and whether the decline in total registered capital indicates a shift toward smaller-scale entrepreneurial ventures rather than large-scale corporate investments.
