Thai Youth Lead Digital Safety Campaign Against Online Scams
Gen Z students and influencers are collaborating on the 'Think Before You Click' initiative to combat rising cyber threats in Thailand.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a new initiative titled 'Think Before You Click' (กดให้คิด คลิกให้ชัวร์) has been launched to empower Thai youth to act as digital advocates against online fraud. The project, a collaboration between the Thai Media Fund and CHANGE2561, involves workshops where Gen Z students and influencers create educational content to warn the public about cyber risks.
During a recent workshop, students highlighted the dangers of clicking suspicious links sent by strangers, which can lead to unauthorized access to personal bank accounts. One student participant advised that if a user accidentally clicks a malicious link, they should immediately activate 'airplane mode' to disconnect the device from the network and prevent further tracking by the perpetrator. The campaign emphasizes the importance of skepticism toward online offers that seem too good to be true.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this initiative underscores the persistent risk of phishing and financial scams targeting mobile users. While the campaign provides practical tips for digital hygiene, it remains to be confirmed how effective these youth-led awareness efforts will be in reducing the overall volume of cybercrime in the country. Users are encouraged to remain vigilant and verify the legitimacy of any digital communication before interacting with links or providing personal information.
