Thailand Launches 60-Day Initiative to Integrate Disaster Data

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai government has officially kicked off a new data-sharing initiative aimed at streamlining disaster management. Following the enactment of a Prime Minister’s Office regulation, the Big Data Institute (BDI) is leading an effort to integrate 118 distinct sets of disaster-related information within a 60-day timeframe.

This project utilizes the 'D2' platform to feed information into the 'National Data Backbone.' Professor Dr. Teeranee Achalakul, Director of the BDI, stated that the primary goal is to enable government agencies to visualize disaster situations more rapidly, allowing for more precise and effective assistance to the public.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this development is significant as it aims to improve the speed and accuracy of government responses during emergencies, such as floods or other natural disasters. By centralizing data, authorities hope to reduce the time between the onset of a crisis and the deployment of aid. While the framework for this data sharing is now in effect, the practical impact on emergency response times remains to be confirmed as the 60-day integration period progresses.
