Thailand Reports May Fuel Consumption Decline Amid E20 Growth
Thailand's Department of Energy Business reports a 4.2% drop in daily fuel consumption for May 2026, while E20 usage continues to rise significantly.
According to data released by the Department of Energy Business, Thailand’s average daily fuel consumption fell to 148.39 million liters in May 2026, representing a 4.2% decrease compared to previous periods. The decline was broad, affecting major fuel categories including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and LPG. Conversely, E20 fuel bucked the downward trend, recording a robust growth of 27% to reach 6.45 million liters per day.
For residents and travelers, these figures reflect shifting energy consumption patterns within the country. While the overall reduction in fuel usage may suggest changes in logistics or private transport activity, the rising popularity of E20 indicates a specific shift in consumer preference toward this ethanol-blended fuel. Additionally, the report noted that the number of NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicles) stations has contracted to 257 locations, with NGV usage itself declining by 8.8%.
