State Enterprise Policy Office Proposes Restructuring for Thai State-Owned Entities

The State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) has proposed rehabilitation plans for three state enterprises and identified eight others that may face mergers.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) has submitted a proposal to the State Enterprise Policy Committee (SEPC) regarding the rehabilitation of three state-owned enterprises. Additionally, the office has identified eight state enterprises that are currently being evaluated for potential mergers to improve operational efficiency.

One notable development involves the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA). The agency is planning a transition toward leasing electric vehicles (EVs). This strategic shift is projected to reduce fuel and maintenance costs by approximately 45%.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, these changes are significant as they may eventually impact the reliability, cost, and modernization of public transportation services. While the shift to electric buses could lead to a more sustainable and potentially more efficient transit network, the full scope of these changes remains in the planning stages.

It is important to note that these proposals are currently under review. The State Enterprise Policy Committee is scheduled to meet again in late September to further discuss these rehabilitation and consolidation strategies. Until that meeting concludes, the specific details regarding which enterprises will be merged and the timeline for the BMTA’s fleet transition remain to be confirmed.
