LO-CARB Becomes Thailand’s First IFRS Sustainability Partner
Thai firm LO-CARB has partnered with the IFRS Foundation to help local businesses adopt international sustainability reporting standards.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai company LO-CARB has officially become the first organization in Thailand to partner with the IFRS Foundation. This collaboration aims to assist Thai businesses in adopting the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for sustainability disclosures, specifically the IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 standards developed by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
Managing Director Nichapat Rattanapraphat stated that the initiative is designed to help local firms align their sustainability reporting with global benchmarks. By adopting these standards, companies aim to improve their risk management, attract international investment, and enhance their competitive edge in a market increasingly focused on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. The move is framed as a response to global trade regulations and climate-related risks that directly impact business operations.
For residents and expatriates, this development signals a shift toward greater corporate transparency in Thailand. While this partnership provides a framework for businesses to report their climate and sustainability impacts, it remains to be seen how quickly major Thai corporations will adopt these specific standards and how this will influence the broader local economy. The initiative focuses on professional reporting standards rather than direct consumer-facing changes, so the immediate impact on daily life for residents or travellers is not yet clear.
