Wooden Structure Collapses into Canal in Sai Mai District

On the afternoon of September 6, 2026, a wooden structure collapsed into a canal located at the end of Soi Phahonyothin 56 in the Sai Mai district of Bangkok. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the collapsed section was an extension of a private residence used as a relaxation pavilion.

Emergency responders, including the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and the Bang Khen Fire Station, were dispatched to the scene following reports of the incident. A bedridden man, who was inside the pavilion at the time of the collapse, became trapped within the wooden debris. Rescuers faced significant challenges due to the instability of the structure, which continued to sink into the water during the operation. Using specialized water rescue equipment, the team successfully extracted the victim and transported him to B. Care Medical Center for urgent treatment.

The homeowner’s son stated that the structure had been in place for over a decade. He noted that he frequently brought his father, who suffers from the effects of a stroke, to the pavilion for fresh air.

For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the potential risks associated with aging wooden structures built over waterways, particularly regarding structural integrity.
