Rescue Operations Continue in Nepal Following Devastating Floods
Ten days after catastrophic flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border, rescue teams have recovered two additional survivors, bringing the death toll to 1,400.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, rescue efforts in Nepal have reached a significant milestone ten days after severe flooding struck the Nepal-Tibet border region on August 26. On September 5, emergency teams successfully rescued two individuals: a Nepali woman found beneath debris in Nuwakot and a Chinese national extracted from a tunnel at the Trishuli hydropower project.
The rescue of the Chinese worker, identified as Lu Haitao, involved a joint operation between the Nepali military and South Korean disaster experts. He was airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment, where his condition is currently reported as stable. This operation brings the total number of workers rescued from the Trishuli site to three, following the recovery of two other Nepali workers on September 4.
For residents and travelers in the region, the situation remains critical. The death toll from the disaster has risen to 1,400. Authorities are currently prioritizing search efforts at 12 hydropower project sites where approximately 900 workers remain missing. It is estimated that at least 500 more individuals may still be trapped or unaccounted for. Travelers are advised to monitor local updates closely, as infrastructure damage and ongoing rescue operations may cause significant disruptions to travel and logistics in the affected areas.
