Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has launched a new policy committee to establish regulations for data centers, aiming to balance rapid digital growth with environmental and community concerns.
On September 4, 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the inaugural meeting of the Data Center Business Policy Committee at Government House. According to Khaosod Online, the government is prioritizing the development of a clear regulatory framework to manage the rapid expansion of data centers across Thailand.
As Thailand positions itself as a regional digital hub for ASEAN, the government aims to ensure these facilities provide genuine economic value rather than serving merely as storage sites. The initiative addresses significant challenges associated with data centers, including their high consumption of electricity, water, and land, as well as potential environmental impacts and cybersecurity risks.
