Investigation Launched After Caregiver Allegedly Abuses Elderly Patient
A family in Chonburi has filed a complaint after discovering evidence of abuse against their 78-year-old mother by a hired caregiver.
On September 6, 2026, a 45-year-old man identified as Mr. Pan and his wife sought assistance from the 'Saimai Tongrod' organization to report alleged abuse of his 78-year-old mother. The mother, who suffers from a stroke and brain atrophy, had been under the care of a private caregiver hired through an agency.
According to the report from Khaosod Online, the family became suspicious after noticing bruises on the elderly woman’s body. Upon reviewing security camera footage, the family observed the caregiver, identified as 44-year-old Ms. Napduan, allegedly covering the victim's head with a towel and tightening it around her neck. The caregiver had been hired for a six-day period at a rate of 800 baht per day.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this incident highlights the importance of rigorous vetting when hiring domestic help or utilizing caregiving agencies. While the family has expressed their intent to pursue full legal action against the caregiver, the investigation is ongoing.
