Serious Assault in Buriram Linked to Substance Abuse
A 60-year-old man is in critical condition after being attacked by his son in Buriram province following a dispute over money for drugs.
On September 5, 2026, a violent incident occurred in Ban Pluem Phatthana, Buriram province, where a 36-year-old man, identified as Mr. Phonphon, allegedly attacked his 60-year-old father, Mr. Pai, with a six-kilogram rock. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the assault took place after the father refused to provide 60 baht for fuel, which the suspect reportedly intended to use for drug-related activities. Mr. Pai, who serves as a village security volunteer, sustained critical injuries and was transferred from Pakham Hospital to Buriram Hospital for emergency care.
During police questioning, the suspect confessed to the act, claiming he feared his father would retaliate against him. He also disclosed a history of substance abuse, stating that while his consumption had decreased from 40–50 pills daily to one, he remained under the influence. Police have filed two charges against the suspect.
