Heavy rainfall from Typhoon Sodel has triggered landslides in Jiangxi province, resulting in one confirmed death and 11 people reported missing.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, citing Reuters and Xinhua, Typhoon Sodel has caused severe weather conditions in Suichuan County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, China. Following days of continuous heavy rainfall, a landslide occurred in the early hours of September 5, 2026.
As of September 6, authorities have confirmed one fatality, while rescue teams are actively searching for 11 missing individuals. Three people were initially rescued; two are reported to be in stable condition, while the third was later confirmed deceased. The Jiangxi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Relief Committee has declared a Level 3 emergency, noting that over 161,500 people have been affected by the storm. Furthermore, China’s Ministry of Natural Resources has upgraded its geological disaster response in the province to Level 3, and the National Commission for Disaster Reduction has initiated a Level 4 national emergency response, deploying specialized equipment and rescue teams to the area.
