Teacher Transferred Following Corporal Punishment Incident in Kalasin
A primary school teacher in Kalasin has been removed from their post after allegedly inflicting severe physical injuries on a fifth-grade student for failing to submit homework.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a fifth-grade student in Yang Talat District, Kalasin, suffered significant bruising and swelling on their back after being physically punished by a teacher. The incident, which reportedly occurred because the student failed to complete homework, left the child unable to lie on their back due to the severity of the injuries.
The case gained public attention after images of the child's injuries were shared on social media, sparking widespread criticism regarding the appropriateness of the disciplinary action. In response to the outcry, local authorities, including Kalasin Constituency 2 Member of Parliament Phalakorn Phimpanit and the Director of the Primary Educational Service Area Office (Kalasin Area 2), Chatchawan Arat, intervened to address the situation.
As an immediate administrative measure, the Director of the Primary Educational Service Area Office has ordered the transfer of the teacher out of the area. The student's mother has expressed her intention to pursue the matter legally, asserting that the punishment was excessive. While the administrative transfer has been enacted, the formal investigation into the incident and potential legal proceedings are ongoing.
