Thai Cavalry Seizes Over One Million Methamphetamine Pills in Chiang Dao
Thai military forces intercepted a drug smuggling operation near the border in Chiang Mai, resulting in a firefight and the seizure of over one million methamphetamine pills.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, soldiers from the Chaiyanuphap Task Force, operating under the Pha Muang Force, engaged in a five-minute firefight with a drug smuggling group on September 4, 2026. The incident occurred in the Muang Na sub-district of Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai province, following intelligence reports of planned smuggling activities through natural border trails between September 1 and 7.
Major General Sathit Wainon, Commander of the Pha Muang Force, had previously ordered strict enforcement of anti-narcotics measures in the region. Following these orders, the 2nd Cavalry Company deployed three patrol teams to monitor the area. On September 4, the first patrol team identified signs of movement near the Musoe trail, leading to the confrontation and the subsequent seizure of over one million methamphetamine pills.
For residents and travelers in the Chiang Dao area, this incident highlights the ongoing security operations along the northern border.
