Fatal Road Accident in Lopburi Claims Life of Engineer
A 50-year-old engineer died after his vehicle crashed into a tree and plunged into a canal in Lopburi province.
On September 5, 2026, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Tha Wung district of Lopburi province, Thailand. According to reports from Khaosod Online, local police were alerted to a pickup truck that had veered off the road and submerged into the Bang Li canal near the Bang Mayom floodgate.
Emergency responders, including local authorities and volunteer divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived at the scene on the Khok Krathiam-Bang Li road. After a search lasting approximately one hour, divers located a blue Toyota Vigo submerged in the water. The driver, identified as a 50-year-old engineer named Mr. Phon, was found deceased inside the vehicle. His body was recovered for a preliminary medical examination before being sent to the Central Institute of Forensic Science for further investigation.
Witnesses reported hearing the sound of a collision with a tree before the vehicle entered the water. Preliminary observations suggest the driver may have been unfamiliar with the route, which is described as a dark, two-lane road. For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights the risks associated with navigating rural roads in low-light conditions.
