Luxury SUV Plunges into Canal in Samut Prakan After Parking Error
A Porsche Cayenne rolled into a canal in Samut Prakan after the driver failed to engage the parking gear, prompting a major recovery operation.
On September 5, 2026, a luxury Porsche Cayenne Hybrid rolled down a sloped street and plunged into the Suvarnabhumi irrigation canal in Samut Prakan, according to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing the vehicle moving backward shortly after the owner exited the car in front of an auto parts shop.
The owner’s son explained that the driver had not shifted the vehicle into 'P' (Park) nor engaged the handbrake before exiting. The car rolled across the road, narrowly missing other traffic, before falling into the canal, which is approximately five meters deep. Local police and rescue teams from Bang Phli were dispatched to the scene to coordinate the recovery.
Retrieving the vehicle required a large crane and took over two hours, during which one lane of traffic was closed, causing significant congestion in the area. The road was reopened once the vehicle was successfully removed.
For residents and travelers, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring a vehicle is fully secured—by engaging the parking gear and handbrake—before exiting, especially when parking on inclines.
