Thailand Pauses 167 Data Center Projects for Regulatory Review

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai government has initiated a comprehensive regulatory overhaul for the data center industry. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting of the National Data Center Board, which resulted in the formation of four sub-committees tasked with drafting new operational criteria within the next month.

As part of this initiative, 167 pending data center projects have been put on hold and must restart the application process under the forthcoming guidelines. Meanwhile, 35 projects that were already in operation remain unaffected. The Ministry of Energy is currently developing four specific strategies to manage the high electricity demand associated with these facilities, while the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is reviewing both existing and new project applications.
