Stock Exchange of Thailand Updates Listing Rules to Attract New Economy Firms

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is revising its listing criteria to facilitate capital raising for New Economy companies and international firms, effective September 11, 2026.

According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has announced a significant update to its listing regulations, set to take effect on September 11, 2026. This strategic shift aims to modernize the Thai capital market by opening doors to 'New Economy' businesses, including those in medical technology, modern automotive, and smart electronics sectors.

SET President Asdajed Kongsiri noted that the current structure of listed companies has remained largely unchanged for three decades. By easing access for firms supported by the Board of Investment (BOI) and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), as well as leading international corporations, the exchange seeks to position itself as a global fundraising hub. Despite these changes, the SET maintains that it will uphold its existing rigorous standards regarding financial health, quality, and information disclosure.

For residents and expatriates, this development signals a potential shift in the local business landscape, as the market aims to diversify beyond traditional industries. While this move is part of a three-year strategic plan (2026–2028) to enhance the market's international appeal, it remains to be seen how many international firms will choose to list in Bangkok and what specific impact this will have on the broader Thai economy. Investors and observers should monitor how these new regulations influence market volatility and the influx of foreign capital in the coming months.
