Thai Ministry of Commerce Concludes 'E-Com Restart' SME Initiative
A joint government project has concluded, supporting over 3,000 Thai SMEs in Chiang Mai and Songkhla and generating 600 million baht in economic value.
On September 4, 2026, the Thai Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), announced the completion of the 'E-Com Restart Roadshow.' This initiative focused on enhancing the digital competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the key economic hubs of Chiang Mai and Songkhla.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the program operated under the 'Rethink–Rebuild–Reboost' framework, aiming to prepare local businesses for the global digital marketplace. Officials reported that the project successfully engaged more than 3,000 entrepreneurs, resulting in a total economic impact exceeding 600 million baht. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, highlighted the program's role in fostering growth for local businesses.
For residents and travelers, this initiative reflects a broader government effort to modernize Thailand’s local economy and digital infrastructure. While the roadshow has concluded, the long-term impact on the availability of local goods and services in these regions remains to be seen. Observers may look for future government announcements regarding follow-up programs or additional support for digital commerce integration in other provinces. The success of this project suggests a continued focus on digital transformation within Thailand's commercial sector.
