JMART and SGC Welcome New Regulatory Standards for Non-Bank and BNPL Services

Thailand's major non-bank financial players, JMART and SGC, have expressed support for the Bank of Thailand's new regulatory framework for Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services.

According to a report by Prachachat Business on September 4, 2026, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) is implementing enhanced regulatory oversight for non-bank financial institutions and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services. Adisak Sukumvitaya, CEO of JMART Group, stated that these measures are viewed as a positive development for the industry, as they are expected to establish clearer competitive standards and improve consumer protection.

SGC, a subsidiary within the group, confirmed its readiness to comply with the new requirements, noting that it has already implemented robust credit risk management systems. For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this regulatory shift is significant as it aims to stabilize the consumer credit market and reduce risks associated with rapid lending growth. By formalizing the oversight of BNPL providers, the central bank intends to create a more transparent financial environment.

While the industry leaders have publicly welcomed the move, the specific operational adjustments required for all market participants remain to be fully detailed. Observers are now waiting to see how these new standards will influence the availability and terms of credit products for consumers in the coming months. As the regulatory landscape evolves, those utilizing installment payment services should monitor updates from their respective financial providers to understand any potential changes to their service agreements.
