Defense Technology Institute Delivers New 5.56mm Rifles to Thai Armed Forces
The Defense Technology Institute (DTI) has officially handed over domestically produced 5.56mm rifles to four major branches of the Thai military.
On September 3, 2026, the Defense Technology Institute (DTI) held a ceremony at the Infantry Center in Thanarat Camp, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, to officially deliver 5.56mm rifles to the Royal Thai Armed Forces. The weapons, manufactured by the Weapon Manufacturing Industry (WMI) company, were distributed to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, the Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Navy, and the Royal Thai Air Force for use in national security operations.
The handover was led by DTI Director General General Dr. Charat Aumsamrit, with several high-ranking officials and former board members in attendance to witness the integration of this locally produced equipment into the military's arsenal.
