Chiang Saen Port Enhances Logistics with New Mobile Crane Service
The Port Authority of Thailand has introduced mobile crane services at Chiang Saen Commercial Port to boost container shipping efficiency between Thailand and Southern China.
On September 4, 2026, the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) announced the launch of mobile crane services at the Chiang Saen Commercial Port in Chiang Rai province. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the first container lifting operation took place on September 2, 2026. Acting PAT Director, Sub-Lieutenant Rattakorn Kiewpaisan, stated that the equipment was acquired to improve the speed and efficiency of container handling, aiming to build confidence among logistics operators and shipping lines.
This development is strategically significant as Chiang Saen serves as a key gateway for river transport via the Mekong River, connecting Thailand to the Guanlei Port in Southern China. To encourage the use of this waterway route, the port is offering special fee incentives for a six-month period to help reduce operational costs for businesses.
